Without thinking I was up out of my seat and out through the front door. There was what was once (a few moments ago) a fully-functioning car wrapped around a now nearly-knocked-down streetlight. Countless tiny pieces of shattered glass were everywhere . For a brief second, as I felt the slow down of time that I had learned on this trip to associate with adrenaline kick in, I thought about why Bruce Willis didn’t wear shoes in Die Hard . It seemed ridiculous and unrealistic, and like the person who made that dumb movie just wanted an excuse to make Bruce Willis step in broken glass. I’m not really sure why I thought about that, but I felt safe in blaming Vicky’s influence on my subconscious. Red and blue flashed, ever closer, and sirens started to wail, slicing through the nervous chatter of the night air as every building in the vicinity of the accident emptied so people could stare at the tragedy that was unfolding.
